Jason Kay
I'm a Designer
About
I was born on the autumnal equinox in the mid-1970s in a suburb of Cleveland, Ohio. I am an ardent enthusiast of technology and began programming at the age of six using a Texas Instruments TI-99/4A. In 1980, my family relocated to south Florida, where many of them still reside in Boca Raton.
I pursued Computer Engineering at college, initially at Georgia Tech in Atlanta, Georgia. I subsequently graduated from Florida Atlantic University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Engineering, with a specialisation in operating system design. In 2013, I was fortunate enough to participate in a virtual learning pilot program at MIT, which facilitated my acquisition of a Master of Science degree in Applied and Computational Mathematics, with honors, in 2015.
Since 1993, I have been engaged in the technology industry, working in the IT sector of some of the nation’s most prominent financial institutions. My roles have encompassed webmastering, enterprise architecture, and senior leadership positions.
In 1998, I relocated to Charlotte, North Carolina, to join First Union National Bank, now Wells Fargo. It was during this time that I met my remarkable and intellectually stimulating wife, Lisa. We exchanged vows in 2000 and have a daughter named Natasha. Natasha possesses a combination of sweetness, sensitivity, intelligence, and compassion, and she has become the source of immense joy in my life.
Natasha recently completed her Bachelor of Science degree in Theatre Technology at a university in the Charlotte area, and has since built a career in professional theatrical production — work that suits her creativity and meticulous nature perfectly. She was also recently married, and watching her thrive in both her personal and professional life has been one of the greatest privileges of mine.
Our family is also blessed with four adorable feline companions.
I actively participate in technology activism groups such as the Free Software Foundation and the Electronic Freedom Foundation, as well as technology development organisations such as the Internet Engineering Task Force, the System Administrator’s Guild, and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. My hobbies include amateur radio, hiking, alpine skiing, target shooting, graphic design, and photography.
